The film industry has seen plenty of amazing movie stars come and go, but these five performers continue to live on in their amazing work that wows people to this day. Leaving the world at such a sad young age, the best we can do is honor their fantastic performances in their short careers.

1. James Dean
Making himself a lasting symbol with iconic films like Rebel Without A Cause and East of Eden, James Dean is an actor who died far too young in a car accident in 1955 at the age of 24. Although his film career was brief, his influence on acting and popular culture remains remarkable.
2. Marilyn Monroe
A household name, there's no American who's never heard of Marilyn Monroe. She was one of Hollywood’s most famous stars, known for films such as Some Like It Hot and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Sadly, she died in 1962 at the age of 36.
3. River Phoenix
Brother of Joaquin Phoenix, River Phoenix earned wide praise for his performances in films such as Stand by Me and My Own Private Idaho. Unfortunately, he died in 1993 at the age of 23, leaving behind a highly esteemed film career.
4. Heath Ledger
Best known for his role in iconic films like Brokeback Mountain and most notably, The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger was a true movie star. He died in 2008 at the age of 28, but his work as the Joker earned him a posthumous Academy Award and remains one of modern cinema’s most discussed performances.
5. Brittany Murphy
Brittany Murphy brought energy and warmth to films such as Clueless, 8 Mile, and Just Married. She died in 2009 at the age of 32, but her performances are still remembered fondly by fans who appreciated her humor, personality, and range. She continues to live on through film.
